"Better storage needed on low secure - we are here for years so we accumulate a lot of stuff."

About: Locked & Specialist Rehab / Ashby Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I think we need better storage in our bedrooms. In my bedroom most of my stuff is in a really small wardrobe and most other stuff has to be kept under my bed.

we probably lack storage space because staff don't want us to have too much in the bedrooms, but they probably don't realise that people are not here for 6 weeks, we are here for years and accumulate a lot of stuff, so I think we need better storage in the rooms on low secure wards.

I got told off the other day, to tidy up my room. I said " I am trying my best to get it done, but I the staff think I have too much stuff and this is why it is untidy so fair enough.

Thank you for letting me know about this situation. Storage is a huge problem for us and we are constantly looking at ways to improve. Some of the difficulties with bedrooms that are very full is the problem with cleaning and ensuring we meet our very high standards of cleanliness.

I absolutely appreciate your point about accumulating things over a period of time - we all do! There is only so much room in the bedrooms and maybe we need to think of other spaces we could use. It would be very helpful if you brought this up in your Community Meeting and had a discussion with your peers and the team as to how you can resolve this.

I have a feeling a lot of ideas will come forward and I will be happy to support where I can.

Lynn
