"I feel that I matter and can't thank you enough"

About: Locked & Specialist Rehab / Spencer South

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I started working with the Patient Experience Team three and a half years ago when I was on Sunley ward, when I was transferred from a high secure hospital.

Working for the Patient Experience Team is different because the patient view or story is taken on board so it can change St Andrew's for the better.

I have gained confidence and experience, I. e. speaking at staff inductions/staff interviews/talking to the Board. I talked to people coming to St Andrew's once people all reach here. I think my experience will teach people the truth about mental health and change things for the better.

Doing this has helped my recovery a lot and it's given me a sense of purpose, I. e. that I matter and I can't thank you enough.

It was a pleasure to hear your account of working for the Patient Experience Team. I agree that your experiences have had an incredible impact on staff and I have also been told by patients that seeing their peers undertaking such roles, helps to motivate and inspire them. I also believe that some patients will speak more freely to other patients and have observed the difference and opportunities that having you working within our team can create. I am pleased that this opportunity is having such a positive impact on you as your contributions have been of great value to St Andrew's and I look forward to a rich and continued relationship with you and with others.

Best wishes

Sophia
