"It took a while to find I had TB"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary / Infectious diseases

(as the patient),

It started in December 2009. My partner was very ill with what we thought was a chest infection, even though he's seen a doctor nothing was actually done til sometime in March when off his own back he took a sputum sample into our GP.

When the results came back it was TB. Then things got rolling with the hospital, Hull Royal Infimary. They told us after numerous tests my partner was contagious and very ill, after losing almost 3 stone in weight.

However he was sent home and quarantined within the house. Unfortunately I also lived there and as I already suffer from chest problems this was a danger to me. Even though we raised our concerns nobody did anything about quarantining him in hospital.

Anyway, he started his treatment and is regually seen in clinic. Then in June I was finally tested for TB and as everyone expected i was positive for the germs. Some tests couldn't be done due to my other chest problems and the doctor didn't want to start me on the drugs until I'd given a sputum sample which with my other health complaint this was not possible for me to provide.

But eventually I started the treatment for TB and so far everything is going well even though it's took some time for things to get started.

I personally cannot complain about anything about the TB clinic at Hull Royal. They are all friendly, clean and discreet, they explain everything very well til you understand properly, they answer all your questions and always have a smile for everyone. Well done and Thank you everyone in chest clinic at HRI.
