"medical students and patients rights"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Dermatology

(as the patient),

Patents, we are told, have a choice whether or not to participate in medical students teaching without prejudice. This works when you are awake BUT having made a complaint about my treatment I was informed that 'we are a teaching hospital and we train medical students so we cannot say whether they were or were not present during your operation'

This I find disturbing since when we are awake we have rights of refusal when anaesthetised we apparently do not.

I my opinion there should be a FULL record of who is present during an operation including students. In addition, I think a patient should be asked if they give permission for students to be present, and their right of refusal respected and adhered to, even if they might be 'an interesting case'!
