"Cleanliness and food could have been better"

About: Northwick Park Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

In late 2009 my fifteen year old son fractured his patella tendon (knee cap) and was rushed to Northwick Park.

The first operation was carried out the following day of the accident, unfortunately, he needed another operation the following week as the wire placed in his knee came loose.

My son was in excrutiating pain post surgery, but was only given paracetamol. As a student nurse myself, I felt that paracetamol alone was not the right choice of analgesia, for this type of post-surgical pain. I had to beg the nurses to offer my son stronger analgesia.

Cleanliness was not a priority, as I found sitting under his bed a urinal full of stale urine from I presume the patient that was in my son's bed before. I just could not wait for him to be discharged as I feared he would have picked up an hospital aquired bug.

The food was unappitising, I had to bring in food on a daily basis.

Not a very nice experience at all.
