I have ADHD. It's a neurodevelopmental disorder starting in childhood. It is genetic. Characterised by impulsivity, hyperactivity, control of emotions. For me also it affects my mood and I suffer from depression. I have had a recent diagnosis and I have been told there is a 11-24 month waiting list to be seen to start medication. This is ridiculous. My impulsivity affects my sexual health choices. Post exposure prophylaxis is more expensive for the NHS than ADHD treatment. I do not want HIV.
I can not be prescribed medication even though I have a diagnosis. The set maximum wait for mental health services is 18 weeks maximum as set by the NHS guideline. I do not understand. In 11-24 months I can catch HIV from impulsive decisions. It's a mental health disorder!
I have been diagnosed in October At the Maudsley Hospital. That took 11 months itself. It is now January. I still do not have access to local treatment.
"I'm not getting access to the mental health..."
