I was treated for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). I saw a psychologist at the Archway on one appointment for an assessment and then for a further 6 appointments for treatment - these appointments were every 2,3, or 4 weeks apart depending on what they had free.
At the end of my appointments I actually felt worse - my symptons are worse now than when I started yet I have been discharged. I am not allowed any further appointments and I am now on medication prescribed by my GP.
I waited nearly a year for this treatment and I am so disappointed.
In my view the person I saw was very cold and distant and I found them hard to speak to. I don't think they smiled once in the 7 times I saw them.I asked to see someone else but wasn't allowed to.
I asked if I could try something I read about called EMDR ((Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) which is meant to be very good for PTSD but they did not know how to do this.
Surely if one treatment does not work you should be allowed to try something different?
Now I feel I'm left worse off than when I started and wish I had never gone there.
I would therefore like to make some suggestions.
People should be allowed to see someone they feel they can get along with.
People should be allowed to be seen long enough to be helped to feel better.
People should be allowed the treatment they ask for. I asked for EMDR and wasn't allowed.
More information should be there for you. I was given no information at all about PTSD. I had to research it on the internet myself.
