"Bad experience delivering my second child at Bolton"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I gave birth to my second child 4 weeks ago at the Royal Bolton Hospital and my experience was horrendous.

I had a normal delivery with my first child and the midwives were excellent, however, with my second the mistakes made by the midwfe were terrible.

I went to down to central delivery after being in early labour for a few hours. After spending a few hours down there, the midwife examined me and said I was 9cms dilated, and that I should start to push. I was doing so for about an hour and nothing was happening except my pain getting worse every time I pushed. I was also on a monitor and my baby's herat rate kept dropping, but every time the alarm sounded, the midwife turned it off and said it was nothing to worry about.

My pain had got so bad by this time due to pushing, I asked for an epidural. The doctor came to examine me to assess whether I was eligible for one, and upon checking he found that I was actualy only 5/6cms dilated and I had stopped dilating, so I never should have been pushing.

My baby was also in distress, and that is why the monitor kept alarming, and due to the fact I had been pushing when I shouldn't have, the baby was worse and I had to have an emergency section.

I blame this on the mistakes of the midwife, and hope that no one else is unfortunate enough to go through what I did.
