"I now have ground leave and community leave"

About: Locked & Specialist Rehab / Fenwick

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I was on Fenwick first now I am on a low secure ward. It was weird transferring from adolescents to adult services. They are more laid back in adolescent but it was also was a supportive experience. There are more rules in adult. there is no in between so I found the transition hard. Family is really important to me and matter the most. I phone home every day and they come down twice a month and I can Skype. It helps seeing the rest of the family. I am still discovering things about myself. I now have ground leave and community leave. I go to wasp and into the community shopping for clothes. I also go to the parks for picnics. It is important getting on with people, it helps keep the wards settled. We try and support each other. Christmas time was difficult. The Christmas dinner was awful which was a shame as this is the one big meal of the year which should be special but it was a bit pants.

I am going to Spencer North which is a low secure ward until I can hopefully get out. I want a house of my own and I want to look after teenagers who have mental health problems. I would like to help teenagers think about what they are doing. It is really important to be able to get of the ward but sometimes there is not enough staff for this to happen.

I'm sorry to hear the transition was difficult, as a pathway we are working with the patients to learn how we can make transitions better for people when transferring to our service and hope this will help people in the future.

We recognise how important family and friends are to you and others, and I am glad you are accessing Skype on the ward as this appears to have had a really positive effect on recovery.

I am sorry Christmas lunch was not as good as you had hope and I will feed this back to the catering department to see how they can improve this going forward.

it is really important to have goals for your future and I wish you every success in your recovery.
