"Maternity Ward"

Labour ward staff were excellent, the care and love they gave was just exceptional. Cleanliness was good and staff were always at hand.

After giving birth I was taken to the Maternity Ward to recover as my baby was in special care unit for 3 days. Staff don't tell you what will happen next and how the Ward works. Patients are to collect their meals at set times however you are not told your food is here, if you hear a rattling trolley go past your room, it could be your meal time! No clear instructions are given to who would look after you during the day or if there has been a shift change. Confusing at times! If you ring the bell, it feels as if I've caused some inconvenience. Some staff were brilliant however they weren't all as kind and supportive. I asked for baby milk for my baby when he eventually was better enough to be with me, a staff nurse tells me if I bought any milk as their not there to give out! If you told me this at the start I would have been more prepared instead of feeling so belittled. At that point I did not feel welcome and just wanted to leave. I hope changes can be made so mothers feel welcome and feel more in control in knowing what their environment will be on their stay. Staff should treat their patients as individuals and be as helpful.
