"Excellent Service - Poor Advice on Recycling"

About: Gravesham Community Hospital

Mum attended the Community Dental Clinic on Friday 30 December for a routine Appointment. All good. Whilst on site she visited Audiology to exchange some batteries for her hearing aids. She was provided with new batteries and when she asked what should be done with the old batteries she was advised 'to take them home and throw them in the bin'! Surely this isn't correct? The Packaging of the batteries even has a symbol which means do not discard but to recycle them. Batteries must be disposed of safely for the sake of the environment and in case young children accidentally swallow them for example. Please could the Audiology Service arrange to collect old batteries and recycle them and not simply advise people to 'throw them in the bin'.

Hello

Please accept our apologies for the advice your mother was given about her old hearing aid batteries.

The Voluntary Services Manager has advised that we do not take old batteries back at this site.

Our volunteers should advise people to put old batteries in their recycle bins at home or in one of the many shops which recycle batteries.

Best wishes
