I was monitored for a while and a decision was made that I needed surgery to replace the Aortic Root. I went into the LGI on the 8th February 2016 and had the most amazing team who replaced my Aortic Root, VSD, and a valve replacement. I am a very bad patient and the thought of having anything done filled me full of dread, I have to say that I was given truly amazing care and made what should have been a terrifying experience into something that was not too bad. They got me in, operated and got me home in a week!! amazing. It is a shame that you can not name any names on here because my Surgeon did an excellent job and they took the time to visit me several times after the operation as did the Consultant on the ward who visited me regularly (they seem to be permanently at work). The Anaesthetists managed to develop system specially geared for me and for that I will be eternally grateful. Another Doctor took a particular interest in my pain medication to help me get over a touch of pneumonia
The nursing team on ward were very attentive and almost all were cheerful and made sure that you got what you needed when you needed it. At no point did I feel concerned about my care on the Ward. After leaving I had to come back quite regularly for tests and check ups and the Adult Congenital Heart Nurse Team are there to help and advise (you will have lots of questions), they have taken the stress out of dealing with the operation and the INR testing and everything else that goes with these procedures, they recognise you and come for a chat and make you feel that you are really cared about, quite how they do it is beyond me. My family and I feel blessed that we had this team looking out for me.
