I had a bone marrow biopsy today ar the East Surrey Hospital. I was given a local anaesthetic, but was not offered sedation. This is the policy of the East Surrey.
I was fortunate in having the biopsy done by a very competent and experienced consultant, but it was extremely painful at times. If it had been done by an inexperienced junior doctor I hate to think how painful it could have been. I now dread the thought of having to have another biopsy, Would the East Surrey hospital please reconsider their policy of not offering sedation for this painful procedure?. Why should patients suffer avoidable pain?
