"39 weeks pregnant and in a&e"

About: Colchester General Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

After visiting my midwife in Colchester on Wednesday with severe abdominal pain aswell as vomiting blood, bloody mucus from my back package, no baby movements and constant sluggish feeling I was told it was nothing to worry about. Saturday evening I called triage which is where I've been recommended to go if I have concerns to just be bypassed to the A&E department!

On a Saturday night it is manic which I understand but due to being pregnant a 2+ waiting time is unacceptable while being pregnant and having lack on baby movements... after signing in and seeing a nurse I got told to wait like everyone else.. not being able to sit down due to severe anal discomfort and abdominal pain! We got called about 45 mins later we then got to see another lady who took us to yet another waiting room, then 30 mins later approx a male doctor came and took us into another room with PLASTER! PAINT! CEMENT AND CONCRETE! Thankfully I don't have a dust allergy as this is totally unacceptable!

After vomiting blood I then got asked why I was in a&e? Which I then had to get my mum who escorted me to explain once again... within 10 mins a lovely lady came in while I was vomiting grabbed me and said I should be in maternity!  I was given a bed in major unit! And due to this person I had about 6 people rushing around me focusing on making me feel better... we were then scolded for not called the triage department which angered both myself and my mum because we had 4+ times over the 4 day period (Wednesday-Saturday) only to be told to go doctors or walk in centre?

So what happens at the weekends or after 5 when the doctors is closed? With an unborn child being my priority this is totally I think this is disgusting and unacceptable! once this staff member had left they settled again and didn't rush... I was told I was staying overnight In a ward which wasn't available until 5. 30am Sunday morning baring in mind I arrived at about 6. 45pm Saturday night!

Once I was told the baby was okay I was relieved but now the question is me? After being in a&e/ ward for 18+ hours no decision was made or effort was made to make me comfortable during the pain other than paracetamol when I asked for it! Even upon discharge and being told early hours I'd go home that Sunday I had to ask what was happening at near 5pm to then be told the doctor who signs the discharge papers was unavailable until Monday. But I could just go.... personally I feel this was yet another smack round the face  and will definitely be taking the matter further!
