What I liked

I was called to the Breast Clinic in February 2010, following a mammogram. A repeat mammogram, ultrasound scan & biopsy revealed a tumour in one breast.

From then, until mid-May, things moved so quickly. I had a lumpectomy, another operation to remove extra tissue and eventually, a mastectomy. Within 4 months, my cancer was diagnosed & removed - I realise I am one very lucky lady.

Throughout the whole experience, the Breast Care Team were absolutely wonderful. The nurses are accessible by phone for support, so nobody needs to be alone during their treatment. Their kindness and understanding is amazing & this is also true of the Consultants.

My operations involved 2 visits to the Day Ward, where the care and support was wonderful. The surroundings are outstanding & the staff, equally so.

My last visit was on Geddington Ward. Situated again in the Treatment Unit, this ward is excellent. The surroundings are clean, fresh & can only be described as being of a standard akin to a top class hotel! The Staff were always cheerful, polite, caring and also very friendly. Meals were delivered by a very pleasant young lady, for whom nothing was too much trouble. In turn, the food was absolutely wonderful & just the right quantity was served.

One thing noticed during my stay, was that once the lights were turned out at night, things were very quiet - exactly as it should be, for patients needing to sleep. This was such a contrast to a hospital in another county, where I recently slept on the ward, whilst my Mum was seriously ill.

If anybody has to stay in hospital, I can honestly say that with my recent experience of Kettering General, I can highly recommend it. Additionally, my daughter who has been seen regularly since her birth in 1984, has always received excellent care & attention at KGH.

We really are very lucky to have such a hospital serving us.

Improving on top quality surroundings & care is not really possible!

Kettering General Hospital is a first class facility, which we should all be proud of!
