"The ambulance driver was great, ..."

About: Cheltenham General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The ambulance driver was great, he helped me a great deal and was very helpful and understanding of the condition i had and with my learning difficulties

What could be improved

clean waiting room, clean xray room, staff not swearing, staff manners, staff attitude.

Anything else?

The emergency staff were all informed by myself about me having ASD and basically to tell me what they were doing before they do it and to explain things through properly. The doctor I saw was extremely arrogant, rude and behaved appallingly. The nurses were more interested in talking about their private lives, one of them was having a conversation via text message whilst treating me. The nurse wanted me to be in a gown which of course i refused as there were no curtains in the bay i was made to sit in. The bed was dirty. Was sent for an Xray where the place was a mess. Xray staff were good. The main doctor was seen again and was behaved disgracefully, she was heard by myself swearing on 3 occasions. She then proceded to stick a rather large needle into me without telling me as i was talking to a nurse and she was wearing latex gloves despte me asking her not to wear latex ones, and to tell me before she touched me. At this point there was no explanation of what she was doing. I then asked for discharge sheet and she was once again very abusive towards me. In the end I told her i would leave with or without signing it. The nurse tried convincing me to stay which i refused. I then was scaremongered by 3 nurses and that doctor into staying and left the hospital with a 50% deflated lung.

I will not under any circumstances use this hospital again and will deffinetly not be dealing with that doctor again either.

That day was a real eye opener of how cheltenham hospital works.

We are sorry to hear of your experience, but note that this was over a year ago. I hope you felt able to raise this with us at the time to allow us the opportunity to raise your concerns directly with the staff involved.
