"Internet access should be decided on an individual basis"

About: Locked & Specialist Rehab / Ashby Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

As a patient in low secure men's service, it is increasingly frustrating that we have no means of accessing the internet for basic research or basic shopping.

I understand that some patients may have identified risks in this area but these should be on an individual basis rather than the whole ward.

Currently we have to ask staff to research items and prices and they are often too busy to take up our request.

Before moving to low secure we were able to access the internet with appropriate supervision and permission through the MDT.

It would be good to have an identified computer area where patients can book sessions.

Thank you for your feedback. Ashby Ward has recently undergone a refurbishment to build a gym and a games room which has now been completed.

We have placed an order for a computer which will be used by patients and this will be installed in the games room.

Access to the internet for patients is individually assessed and you can organise this by speaking to your care coordinator or a member of the MDT.

I will keep you updated via the Ward community meetings about installation dates.

Kind Regards

Claire Jones -Compliance and Administration Manager, Men's Mental Health
