"Good care in Ward 12 before/after my surgery"

About: St John's Hospital / Gynaecology St John's Hospital / Head and Neck

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Ward 12 for a laparoscopy and removal of endometriosis. I arrived at the ward a bit earlier than what I should have but this was fine and I was greeted by one of the nursing assistants, Shona who was really lovely and made me feel at ease as I was nervous about my surgery. Thanks Shona for being so great and helping me feel less nervous.

I met the staff nurse Lynne who was a bank nurse and she introduced herself and told me that she'd be looking after me today. She was very friendly and so attentive. She got me all sorted for going to theatre and had taken me down and was so good at taking my mind off it.

The theatre staff and anaesthetists were absolutely lovely. I'm not a fan of needles and I told them this and he had a cannula in within seconds and I didn't feel a thing! Before I knew it was over and I was awake in recovery. The recovery nurses were very good making sure I was feeling okay and not in any pain.

I was taken back to the ward and Lynne was so attentive. She did my post-op obs and made sure I was comfortable and not in any pain. Despite being busy she kept popping in to the bay to see if me and the other girls were okay. I had an issue with one of my wounds as blood had leaked from it onto the bed I'd let her know and she got me sorted straight away and put another dressing over it.

The domestic staff in the ward were so kind as well they were popping in and out offering us tea, coffee and food. They were really chatty and really lovely! The consultant and surgeon Dr Mills was just brilliant very cheery and made me less nervous about the surgery. I cannot thank him enough and to finally have answers for the pain I've been in and that it was endometriosis after it being dismissed multiple times by doctors and other consultants. He was so patient and kind and I really appreciate that. Thank you so much you are all a credit to the NHS. Thank you for making a scary experience into a positive one. x

I was discharged later on that night and left the ward to go home feeling comfortable and happy.

Dear Dionnex

Thank you so much for taking the time to share you lovely feedback with us following your stay in ward 12, St John's hospital.

I was really pleased to hear how Shona and Lynne cared for you both before and after your operation, taking the time to explain what would be happening, keeping you up to date and making sure that you were comfortable and not in any pain. I was really pleased that you were able to get home that night to get back to the comfort of your own bed.

I have shared your kind words with senior team and have asked them to pass this onto Dr Mills and the rest of the ward and theatre teams as l am sure they will be delighted with your feedback.

I hope that you are well on the road to recovery and thank you again.

Kind regards

Jeannette
