"Poorly fitted cast shoe in the Orthopeadic Ward caused pain"

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

My son was receiving treatment at the Doncaster Royal Infirmary Hospital on ward 30, the Orthopaedic ward. When it came for him to be discharged there was a problem with the size of the cast shoe. We were given no contact details either of someone in the Plaster Suite for problems experienced after discharge and before the next outpatients appointment.

During a visit to the Physiotherapist, he was asked to walk on his heel in the cast, which he was unable to do due to the positioning of it. This meant that he was pushed too soon to do something that caused him a lot of pain and humiliation and more importantly he was asked to do something that he was unable to do, due to the poor fit of the cast.

We were also informed by the Physiotherapist that they would come back and see us in half an hour, they failed to do so. We found this appalling!
