"Fundamental in helping me turn my life around"

About: Capio Nightingale Hospital - Lisson Grove

The hospital saved me. I was a voluntary inpatient in the Addictions Unit for three weeks in July 2016, in dire need of treatment for a horrendous morphine addiction, via OTC codeine based painkillers. Everything about the hospital was incredible: all of the medical staff were extremely compassionate, non-judgemental, encouraging, motivating and professional. I always felt that I was provided sufficient and clear information and also that my views were considered and respected. The non-medical staff were also amazing, always friendly and cheerful, and professional. I had a lovely room which was cleaned to a good standard daily with daily changes of towels and regular changes of bed linen. The communal kitchen / seating area contained everything needed to help me feel at home rather than in an institution and there were also adequate laundry facilities. It was very reassuring and comforting to know that the nursing station was close by and that there was 24 / 7 support available. The therapy programme was also superb: the timetable was well structured in that the theory sessions were taken by different therapists covering a variety of topics and the relaxation / meditation sessions at the end of each day were a great way to unwind. The therapists were kind, motivating, reassuring and excellent at their jobs. To my surprise there was also a lot of laughter throughout the sessions, unexpected when covering such a harrowing topic as addiction, but extremely welcome! There was plenty of freedom to mix with other patients and I very much enjoyed their companionship and support. The food was of a good standard, nutritious and varied, and I was very grateful of the flexibility available when I occasionally needed to have a meal in my room. The administrative staff were also very efficient and pleasant. My husband visited me daily and was always welcomed and respected. My subsequent outpatient programme has involved twice weekly / weekly sessions with a therapist of my choice and alternate monthly / monthly sessions with my psychiatrist: both of which is proving extremely beneficial in my ongoing recovery. I have been clean for over three months now which is nothing short of a miracle! I have considered myself extremely lucky to have benefited from its facilities and would not hesitate to recommend it to anybody who asked me as I cannot fault it in any way. Thank you so much for your help.
