"Lack of aftercare advice after sterilisation surgery"

About: University Hospital Aintree

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

After awakening from my surgery I was given morphine. They discharged me with paracetamol. I challenged that as I felt I needed something stronger, which they denied as the surgeon had gone home.

They did not walk me out when I was discharged, to check I was picked up. They had told me I had to have someone to pick me up but then never checked whether I had someone to help. They also did not give me any aftercare as they "didn't know". They said they didn't normally do this operation (only 1 day a week) and so they didn't know about aftercare. They told me to phone the Women's Hospital and ask them about what to do with my stitches.

I received no further information when I was discharged at 2.30pm. I did not feel well enough to be discharged, I did not feel listened to, involved in my discharge, I received no aftercare or care plan.

Overall I would rate my experience as not good.
