"Lack of information"

About: Mid Essex PCT

(as the patient),

My problems started just over 2 years ago.

Doctors told me that i had Irritable Bowel Syndrome for months. After constant nagging from my part i was refered to the hospital, only to find that i had a diverticulum.

A year after tests i was called back to the hospital. My consultant was a "no show" and i was told by another consultant that they would discuss my case when he returned and call me within the week.

2 months on, no call and i'm on the phone to the hospital asking what is going on...still no news! A few weeks later i get a letter saying that i will be admitted for surgery within the month and had to go in a week before for tests, thought that would be my chance to speak to the consultant who would then advise me of the procedure and what i should expect - but no. I had the routine tests and that was it.

None the wiser about what would occur, what i would need to take into hospital, etc. Finally the consultant came in after the nurse had to fetch him because of having none of my notes, she didn't even know what i was having done. The consultant was very negative towards me, i actually cried :(

I think it's appalling the way i've been treated.
