"toothache for a month and its not a priority!"

About: St Richard's Hospital

For a month, ive been suffering with toothache on a wisdom tooth.

Ive been to my dentist who doesn't feel right removing this tooth at the surgery as I have various ill health problems, so they referred me to the maxo facial unit for a consultation to get this tooth out!

It took the maxo facial unit along time to get me a appointment to see a dental technician, so I had to call on my own dentist and patient liaison team for there help and input for them to organise and lease with maxo team to get one.

Finally, a appointment was organised for me to have a appointment.

I saw a dental doctor, who agreed that this tooth needs to come out. Allelulia im thinking, take this tooth out soon! 2 days later I hear back from the admissions team of the hospital, who inform me, im not a priority patient so ive got to wait a month and a half for the maxo team to take out my bad tooth.

(

I immediately ring pals up again for intervention but im left to feel having a painful toothache is a mountain out of a molehill and there are more seriously ill patients than me awaiting surgery! )

Im also a epileptic, so if I continue to take more and more painkillers it will stop the epileptic meds working properly, but no one at the hospital sees that as a problem!

Total disgrace to allow someone to walk around night and day with chronic toothache and not do anything about it until a later date!

Even the A and E dentist doesn't want to get involved!

Suggested Trust response:

We are sorry that you have waiting over a month with toothache and you have a wait before we are able to remove your tooth.

We would like to carry out your procedure sooner but the pressure on the service is such that we do have a waiting list.

Patients are seen in clinical priority order and those patients with cancer or suspected cancer are seen first.

This does mean other patients may have to wait and we are sorry that we cannot see you any sooner.

You were right to contact our PALS team but they are not able to put patients in front of others as all our patients have to be seen in order of their clinical priority.

As you are concerned about your health whilst you wait to have your tooth removed, we suggest you contact your GP to ensure your condition is not compromised whilst we organise a date for you.

If you do have any other concerns, please do contact PALS again who will be happy to talk to you and can liaise with the operational or clinical staff involved if necessary.
