"The staff were all very kind and ..."

About: Wansbeck Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The staff were all very kind and caring to my 87 yr. old mother who was in ward 16.

What could be improved

The standard of food could be greatly improved. There were times I had to take flasks of homemade soup in to my mum and one other patient who had no-one visiting. We were told that the food is not prepared at the hospital but brought in and re-heated. The sort of food served is not adequate or even the appearance was not enough to tempt anyone's appetite.

Anything else?

The only other comment I would make is that when a patient is told they can leave why do they have to sit so long waiting for letters and medication. Surely these can be in place before the patient is told they can leave. I was told I could pick my mother up between 9 and 10 and we were still there at 12 when they had to bring her some lunch.

Thank you for your comments posted on the NHCT website regarding the care afforded to your mother at Wansbeck General Hospital.

It is always appreciated when patients and carers give feedback and I have noted your comments concerning the food and discharge time. I will ask our Chief Matron to forward these concerns to the appropriate staff.

Thank you for taking the time to write.
