"Totally let down by Hallamshire Hospital"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Hallamshire Hospital 2 years ago when numerous symptoms had a sudden onset. My stools went yellow, terrible pains in my legs, convulsions, dizziness, horrible stomach pains. I was on the ward a week before my doctor finally came to see me. I was down to have a gastroscopy the following day, my doctor cancelled the gastroscopy. I believe I was then thrown out of the hospital by this doctor who was claiming I was suffering anxiety induced stomach pain.

This was after I was told by another doctor I might have a tumour in my stomach. Whilst I was there I thought some of the staff I saw were terrible. I came across person who ran around at night loosing their temper and shouting at some of the patients. I staggered down the corridor in a terrible state one night and asked for help but this staff member didn't seem to like to be interrupted and I found out when I was promptly frog marched back to my bed. They took stats and simply tossed the sensors back in to the machine tray and walked off without saying a word. I feel like this is just a total lack of care/patience shown by this person. I can’t believe with my health history that I could ever have received such treatment from this person, lack of understanding and what in my opinion is such a ridiculous diagnosis.

It took months and months of care by my family and friends and luckily a good understanding of my own underlying condition to get me back on my feet again. But I think it’s amazing that I had to do the leg work, I feel like I had to diagnose myself and go to my doctor and tell them what I needed to get better. I feel totally let down by Hallamshire Hospital and have hated going to the place ever since and yes the parking is terrible too.
