I was admitted as an emergency to RBH in early April 2016 with gall stone colic. My pain settled of itself so i was only there one night, but then followed investigations:ultrasound, MRI, gastroscopy and a colonoscopy. Then an outpatient visit and finally a pre-op assessment before my laparoscopic cholecystectomy in September which went well. Throughout, despite all the difficulties the NHS is experiencing, I was impressed by the care I received. The most difficult aspect was the long wait in A&E before being seen even though I had a letter from my GP saying my admission had been arranged by phone, and then a long wait before a bed being found. The difficulty in finding beds for patients can lead to weaknesses in communication such as the nursing staff on the ward not being aware that I should not have had breakfast the following morning so that I could have had an U/S. I had to go home and wait for an U/S appointment a week later.
