"Emergency Admittance 3 weeks ago still waiting..."

About: Derriford Hospital / Cardiology

My 80 year old father was admitted 3 weeks ago as an emergency. It came to light that despite keeping himself healthy (non smoker/doesn't drink, not overweight and keeps fit) he required a heart bypass operation. Three weeks later and he and we (his family) have endured the highs/lows/anticipation and subsequent let downs of 2 cancelled operations. The stress on my father and our family is rising day by day. He has also been under at least three different Consultants which doesn't appear to benefit him. The care from ancillary and nursing staff has been exemplary but he doesn't want to be bed blocking and having this care he wants to receive his treatment and then go home to recuperate and do his part in the lengthy recovery process. We as his family are concerned that due to his age he is being overlooked.
