"Concerns about staff attitudes at Royal Hallamshire Hospital"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

(as the patient),

I was treated on Ward P2 for the removal of gallstones. The consultant Dr Gleeeson explained clearly the procedure before and after I was treated. The attitude of the staff on the ward could have been better to all patients. The bathrooms were poorly cleaned, all of the wash basins were blocked and overflowing on one occasion. I did not feel embarrassed or upset about the treatment that I had received, but, I felt that the treatment of the elderly made me very upset and embarrassed. Especially two 'senile' old men in the next bay to me. The consultant could not understand why I had been admitted the day before for 2 nights and thought that one night would have been adequate. This was not a reassuring experience and I hope that I never have to return. In the twenty years since my stay in the Royal Hallamshire, the situation has changed beyond recognition. However, I would like to thank a nurse called Claire who was in her final 3 months at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. She came onto the ward on the 7th August and she accompanied me to Theatre and was a real comfort to me before and afterwards.
