"Dementia Patient"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / Accident and emergency

My Wife was diagnosed with dementia about three years ago,and had to go into care last year. She took ill in the care home and an ambulance was called. The first on the scene was a paramedic followed shortly by an ambulance. After attempts to treat her in the home she was rushed to Wigan REAI , A&E dept. Where she was treated and stabilised. She was then transferred to the MAU ward and eventually to Standish ward, where very sadly she passed away. My reason for sending this review is simply to thank all the staff involved for their caring and understanding. It is only when you experience things like this that you truly understand how loving caring and proffessional the staff are. So on behalf of myself and family may I thank you all so much and give you all a big hug. God bless, from Ralph Williams

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on Patient Opinion following the admission of your late wife. Please accept my sincere condolences to you and your family at what I am sure is a very sad time. I know that the staff in A&E and on Standish ward will really appreciate your posting as it will confirm to them that they are providing a compassionate and professional service for our patients, relatives and carers which is appreciated by families. I will ensure that this is shared with them through the Heads of Nursing for both scheduled and unscheduled care.

Kind regards
