"Sent home without any information"

About: Rotherham Hospital / Accident and emergency Rotherham Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

I was taken to hospital by ambulance suffering with chest pain, I was attended to on arrival and the medical staff stated I was being treated for a suspected heart attack. I answer all questions asked. I was not given any clot busting drug! but was injected with morphine. After I was stabilised I was transferred to the A + E assessment ward where I was given further blood test and in the early hours of the morning I was transferred to ward A4 (Gastroenterology ward) which I was very unhappy about as I was a heart patient and upsetting more was that the consultant I was under (specialty: General medicine) was not a cardiologist. I stated to one of the doctors that came to my bedside informing me I had had a heart attack that I was under a Consultant Cardiologist at Northern General Hospital and could I please be transferred there- to this I had no response. On discharge 3 days later I was sent home without any information regarding my condition or what services a heart attack patient can obtain.

Response from Samantha Robinson, Head of Patient Experience, The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust

Dear sad eye

Hello my name is Samantha, firstly I would like to thank you for your feedback through Patient Opinion, however I am sorry to learn of your recent experiences in our emergency department and following your transfer to Ward A4. Please be assured I take concerns around the standards of care provided very seriously and in particular that you felt the communication and the lack of information afforded to you was poor and that you wished to go elsewhere for treatment. I would like to investigate the issues that you have raised in more detail. In order for me to do this please contact my Patient Experience Team on 01709 424461 so we can discuss your concerns in confidence.

With best wishes.
