November 2015, my heart attack started in the early hours of the morning, 999, the ambulance from Girvan came in less than twenty minutes! What a great team, very calm and reassuring, ECG showed my left ventricle blocked, no mobile signal to send results, one operator outside to find a signal while the other prepared me for transport. On the road, send ECG results to base, ask for permission to use clot busting drug, I don't think it worked, I will remember that journey to Hairmyres Hospital for ever! I do remember the reassurance and friendly banter from the ambulance team. The Cath Lab was 'freezing' the staff calm, friendly and very efficient, half an hour later I am in the recovery ward with a stent in my main artery and damage to my left ventricle.
The care here could not be better, any need cared for, nothing too much trouble. Transfer to Ayr was the day of massive storms there was doubt an ambulance would be free, arrive Ayr in the evening, short recovery stay then home, with a recommendation that more stents may be needed if meds didn't work.
Many changes of meds to reduce my adverse reactions, my energy levels and breathlessness getting worse over time and an angiogram at Ayr showed I had to return to Hairmyres ice box, two hours and three stents later, recovery overnight in the ward. I cannot praise these Doctors, staff and nurses enough for making my experience the best it could be.
