"Getting an emergency appointment at GP Practice"

About: Fife Community Services

(as the patient),

I work in an environment which means I cannot use my phone, so I asked my mum to call the GP surgery at 08. 00 to get an emergency appointment for me as my dermatitis is breaking down and causing my hands to be in agony. I managed to call her on my break to find out the triage nurse had been snippy and quite rude to her. This is unacceptable! I understand there are data protection laws but I gave my mum a very detailed description of what was wrong so she could act on my behalf. The only reason she had to phone for me is because by the time I would have been able to call all the appointments would have been taken.

Dear Annoyedpatient

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about a recent experience of contacting the GP Surgery. I was sorry to hear of the difficulties experienced as a result of your mum calling on your behalf. Staff should be polite and courteous at all times so it was disappointing to hear that this was not how your mother was addressed. I would be happy to forward your post on to the GP Surgery directly if you wish to contact me and let me know which GP Surgery this relates to.

Please feel free to contact me directly on 01592 648154

Regards

Louise Ewing
