"My day at the Surgical Unit for removal of my..."

About: West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance)

Following the swift and efficient handling at Reception what followed was in the greater part very pleasant. The nurse allocated to look after me was very friendly, kindly and extremely gentle and helpful. I was quickly made at ease and though we had a bit of surprise and scare over my blood pressure this was soon under control largely due to the reduction in "white syndrome" effects! The anaesthetist was extremely attentive and very helpful and immediately put me at ease in what for most is possibly the most traumatic part of the whole exercise. The Consultant followed and again was very helpful and I felt very confident that things were totally in control. Later after transfer into gown dressing gown and socks the wait was both comfortable and relatively quiet. Transition to the operating room and pre op prep. was a little more 'exciting' but always comfortable. Didn't feel a thing is really the best way to describe things. I awoke in the recovery room and after a few seconds of discomfort due to getting my breath back I quickly recovered. Post op back in the ward my nurse attended to me - important not to have changed person I thought, Blood pressures quite normal now and very comfortable. I was discharge without difficulty at about 2:45pm and on returning home have in the main comfortable. A little sore from the bruises during the night and some discomfort from the right shoulder where I understand the gas used in the op. migrates. I hope to see the back of that during today. So, all together a very positive experience during which I was treated in an exemplary manner in all respects. A bug thank you to all the staff at all levels.
