"Out patient clinics"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Cardiology Victoria Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

A tale of two clinics!

At Queen Margaret's Cardiology department, the nurse who did ECG & blood pressure was very pleasant and put me at ease. However when I went in to see Cardiologist I felt that they were abrupt and made me feel like I was a nuisance. I tried to explain my symptoms but  I felt that they did not seem interested. I did not take up much of the doctors time. I realise I am elderly and have complex medical problems but I was attending because my lovely GP thought it necessary.

I had another appointment at the Victoria hospital with the speech and language therapist and my experience was vastly different, she listened carefully and gave me some good advice and explained what follow ups I would be having. I felt she really cared about me and my problems. Thank you Alison you are a star!

Dear Granny

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experiences in Out Patients. It was good to read the positive but disappointing that you felt the Cardiologist seemed disinterested in you. All referrals from GPs are vetted, so the fact that you had an appointment meant the Consultant felt there was merit in seeing you in Out Patients. Would you mind contacting me directly so I can follow up on this? We do not want patients to feel the way you do.

Please call me on 01592 648153 if you would be willing to share some further information with me.

Kind regards

Louise Ewing

Dear Granny

Thanks for getting in touch with me, I was genuinely sorry to hear that you felt such a nuisance - this is definitely not how we want patients to feel. Please don't ignore any symptoms you have in the future as a result of this experience and please get in touch if at any time I can be of any further assistance. Your comments from our conversation today have now been passed on to the appropriate people.

Regards

Louise Ewing
