Attended A & E dept yesterday on advice of my GP as a lump had suddenly appeared in my eye which was also v bloodshot. It wasn't a stye or conjunctivitis & they thought it was probably a cyst. As I am at risk of glaucoma & my eye pressures seem to fluctuate wildly I was actually concerned it was connected, some sort of haemorrhage or worse. My GP had told me there was a 24 hour walk in service so I was expecting to wait. It turned out that I waited over an hour to see the nurse who assessed me & then more than two hours more before I saw a doctor. But, within minutes the doctor had diagnosed a conjunctival cyst, told me what they were going to do ie lance it & before I could protest, the job was done totally painlessly & I was on my way with a prescription for antibiotic cream which I was able to collect from the pharmacy on the way out. I can't praise this service highly enough & the long wait is as nothing when you know you're going to be seen by an eye specialist at the end of it. As a Londoner, I'm delighted to know that this service exists & 24/7 too....how lucky are we? The NHS at its best, thank you.
