My father in law has been dismissed after 5 days after having a triple heart bypass, the care was appalling beyond belief. Working within the healthcare sector myself for 24 years I was shocked by the lack of care and concern for humanity, He was not correctly assessed if he was able to cope at home living alone in a upstairs flat and told you have enough family we have seen them visit? His drain pipe was stitched in by accident which meant after several very painful attempts to remove meant another GA a day after a major op and that made his start of recovery even worse. He could hardly move and the pain he was in was shocking, he asked for help to the toilet but told to take himself, after telling them he was struggling they showed no concern and left him to mess himself while trying to walk to the toilet, then told to clean himself up? He was complained to by a nurse for not washing his support stockings! He explained he was struggling with the pain to breath and they told him he could of wasted it in the sink. We arrived to visit him on day 5 after such a major op and this was shocked to see his bags packed and the nurse came over quickly saying great he can go home can you take him! I told them I felt he was not well enough and no provisions were made yet for help at home but they seemed not to care in the least. This is Basic nursing yet no nursing care was provided. A complaint will be going in to the CQC and hospital management about their lack of care. We actually took the nurses treats and coffee knowing that normally they deserve something for there hard work and care but I wish I had not bothered. They to care nothing for him, just another bed free so this means less people to care for. The ward seemed clean to the eye! But care well they all need re training in this area. He was then allowed to sort his own bags and suitcase and to walk out of the ward only after I asked did someone help. He had has water removed from him as they moaned he kept spilling it! But he wa so weak he struggled to deal with hour by hour, could they not of provided him a cup and straw. Not only that they left the drainage tube stitched in, he was told to put his own support stocking on but only when he said he could not bend did they eventually help, he was then sent to do I painful car journey after a major op only 5 days later. He said he felt like he was going to die in there care. Beyond belief, shocking and disgraceful, this is meant to be one of our country's best cardiac units, well something needs to happen this is shocking. He wasn't also x rayed before leaving but no results checked and then we received a phone call on the way home to say the X ray actually shows some fluid on his lung and I he maybe should not of been dismissed from there care but drugs would be sent or his doctors of he could arrange collection. They should all be ashamed of there duty of care and to call them nurses is a disgrace as none of them nurses him or others on the ward.
