"Nurses were on the whole freindly ..."

About: Whipps Cross University Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Nurses were on the whole freindly & helpful

One member of the support staff was helpful

What could be improved

Much could have been improved.

My sister was the victim of a serious sexual assault, she was brought in at 11am and she was in the same stuffy room without windows or venilation from 11am till 4pm. The emergency call button was not working so when we needed help and assistance no-one was availible & when looking for someone it took oveR half an hour to find anyone.

When preparing to leave we were booked for a cab by the hospital, inside the waiting room a member of staff offered my mother a cup of tea, when my mother asked if my sister (who was the patient) could have one she replied "No I don't have enough milk" in a harsh tone, whats more when she opened the fridge there were 3 full bottles of milk inside, five minutes later a man came into the room & offered everyone in the room a cup of tea much to the womans annoyance seen on her face

My sister started to complain of chest and side pains so she was taken back to the A&E area where we waited for an hour & a half before being seen for the first time when they claimed they couldn't see my sister, when i said we wouldn't leave until she was seen by someone they changed their minds, we had to wait for 3 hours overall for them to tell us she had suffered bruising & muslce strains when she was attacked and given some painkillers, During those 3 hours only 4 other people were seen, why couldn't they see her and tell us that earlier? when i asked i was met by silence.

So second time trying to leave, my mother and sister returned to the departure lounge, which was shut, when she asked how she could get home a rude male member of staff repied "You'll have to pay for a cab yourself" despite her being assured earlier that she wouldn't have to pay.

By the way my mother is Disabled and is on oxygen 24/7 & my sister was in shock

Anything else?

The overall level of care was appalling, most of the staff didn't seem to care what we needed and were insensitive & very rude

It seems that to get anything done you have to ask several times before anyone even listens & threaten not to leave if you are to be seen at all

At a very difficult time for the whole family this just made the whole situation worse for us, Whipps Cross sfaff should feel ashamed of themselves

I feel sorry for anyone who has the misfortune of being treated here

It should be sorted out & soon, people come here to get better or for help, not to be ignored, made to feel unwanted & a nuisance

If you take up a job in the NHS you need to perform it at your best, how would you feel if we ALL did our jobs in the same uncaring way?
