What I liked
I was admitted via A & E. The A & E doctor was excellent, as were the nursing staff, and kept me fully informed and arranged X-rays. I was transferred to the Surgical Admissions Unit where the staff, both medical and nursing, were also excellent. Food was reasonably good, too.
What could be improved
My sole complaint was that on being transferred to a ward I was told that I would be discharged that day. This was at 8.30am. A doctor did not come to see me until 6pm and told me nothing that hadn't already made known to me earlier. By this time the hospital pharmacy had closed (it closes at 4pm) and there was a problem getting my medication to enable me to be discharged. Nursing staff made a valiant effort to obtain supplies from other wards, but at one point it looked as though I would need to be detained for a further night. I eventually left at 8pm.
I realise that doctors are busy people but I simply do not accept that I should be kept waiting from 8.30am until 6pm to be given information that was already available at 8.30am. A doctor or sister could easily have spared five minutes to discharge me in the morning. My time is equally valuable. I have better things to do than sit beside a bed, staring at a wall, from 8.30am until 6pm. This lack of communication needs serious addressing.
Anything else?
Your website should be amended. I wrote my various comments and got to the end of the page where I was instructed to 'read the terms and conditions carefully.' I clicked on this to read them and when I returned to the original page my comments had been deleted! Very poor design. Either retain the comments or show the terms and conditions at the top of the page, stating that they should be read before entering comments. I have had to waste my time rewriting my comments.
