When my daughter was born both my partner and I were extremely happy. She came in weighing over 10lbs. Pretty quickly we realised that things weren't perfect: she wouldn't feed neither bottle or breastfed. Due to the complications of untreated gestational diabetes her blood sugars were a bit over the place. She was admitted into the neonatal unit on day one. Here she had a Nasogastric tube fitted in order for her to get some milk. Her weight began to decline and feedings were a nightmare for us and the staff due to her refusal. She eventually put on enough weight to get the tube out and after a week in neonatal was discharged home.
I would like to thank all staff at the neonatal unit who were caring, compassionate and empathetic to our needs. My daughter is now 9 months old and is doing absolutely fantastic with no further weight problems. Thank you to everyone there, without your help and support I don't know how I would have coped.
