"Top quality care from amazing midwifes"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

I have birth at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital in July and despite rumours of extreme staff shortages it was certainly not evident at the time! After my waters had broken I was advised to go into hospital to check the positioning of my baby as I had suffered from high water levels and there was a risk of cord prolapse. Upon arrival I was given a bed straight away and checked over by a midwife - all was well and after some time on a monitor I was allowed home and told to go back when my contractions were stronger. I returned to the hospital at 4. 30pm and I was examined at 5. 30pm - at this time there were 2 women giving birth in the unit so I did not expect to be seen straight away. I was left to progress further and at around 7. 00pm I was greeted by a lovely student midwife called Lisa who stayed with me and my husband the whole time.

From start to finish my labour was amazing and that is thanks to the exceptional care of the midwifes. At no point in my labour was I made to feel like there were staff shortages and the care I received was top class. My son was taken away briefly at birth and the midwifes reassured myself and my husband that everything was okay. I had such a positive experience that I have no questions about giving birth there in future. Top quality care from amazing midwifes who don't get enough credit for the job they do.

Dear Mummy to baby boy

Many congratulations on the birth of your little boy.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience on Patient Opinion. It means a lot to staff to receive such praise on a public website. Expectant mums reading this will feel very reassured about the care delivered at AMH. We understand that we do not get things 100% right 100% of the time but I am really glad we did for your family.

Staff shortages are a reality in many walks of life and it is a credit to our staff that they cope so remarkably well. We are proud of what we do at AMH and aim to deliver the same high standard of care to all our families.

Good luck with your little one and many thanks again for your feedback.

Kind regards,
