"A & E"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary / Accident and emergency

So I came to A & E in the early hours on a night out after falling down a step on the side of my foot. I could tell something was broken . I was seen quickly , the 1st person I saw was rather snappy and rude to me and wrote on my notes "fell on bum" . Then the doctor which I was told was a locum didn't even touch my foot to observe possible damage , the doctor sat in their chair with their top button undone quite casually thinking I was a joke , I feel like I wasn't taken seriously as I was young and had a few drinks. The doctor also told me to put peas on my foot and it would be better.

! I wanted an x-Ray but was refused . The security guards also were joking to me asking if I wanted a piggy back out laughing at me . I left with my friend crying so upset and humiliated . I returned to work the next day with a swollen foot .. I decided to visit another medical centre for examination which they then sent me for X-ray and it turns out a bone in my foot was broken ! And I was in a cast for months.

This staff member was not bothered and ignored a patient with an actual injury !

Dear Penelope,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

We are very disappointed to hear about your recent experience in A&E at the Royal Infirmary and that you experienced poor communication from our members of staff and felt upset and humiliated. This is unacceptable and we would like to look into your concerns in more detail, so if you are happy for us to do so, please email: communications@uhl-tr.nhs.uk with your name, address, date of birth and hospital number and we can investigate this further for you.

Kind regards
