My partner has several genetic, life long illnesses that cause extreme stress, pain and upset. In particular she suffers from POTs and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome which leads to her fainting /losing consciousness several times a day without warning, and due to the EDS she regularly falls and dislocates her knees, hips, shoulders and ribs. She has many times fallen down the stairs as well as many falls and dislocations around the house which, if occurring when I am not at home or if she is unable to put the joint back in place herself usually means she has to call an ambulance.
So she has already suffered the deeply upsetting faint and is usually in a lot of pain from various joint issues - she is then having to deal with rude, sometimes disbelieving and downright cruel paramedics and EMTS. She tries to be as helpful as possible, explaining her relatively rare conditions to each crew - but has on several occassions been accused of drug seeking, making illnesses up (despite Yorkshire Ambulance Head Office confirming all of her medical history with her GP! ), she's been told to grow up, had her joints pulled ' to see if they really do hurt', been told that she can't possibly have dislocated her hip because she isn't screaming and crying in pain.
Yet again today she's been left an emotional wreck after being accused of lying about pain, and after a paramedic ignored her when she was trying to explain she didn't need to go to hospital just needed gas and air and a little help. We will be making another formal complaint but I'm sick of her being treated like this and it needs to stop! I'm so concerned about how this treatment is effecting her emotionally and mentally.
