"I've just been discharged ..."

About: St Michael's Hospital (Bristol)

(as the patient),

What I liked

I've just been discharged from a 4 night stay at St Michaels.

The hospital ward and facilities were brilliant, clean and comfortable.

The staff were professional, caring and helpful.

What could be improved

The food is disgusting.

Its cold, tasteless and unappetising.

People going for meals first take all the sandwiches and fresh fruit (because thats the only food thats edible), so if you want these get there early.

The staff order coffee to be delivered from an outside cafe because the hospital coffee and tea is disgusting.

Thanks you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at St Michael's. We are glad you found the environment and staff to be of the highest standards and will pass on your comments on to the staff there. We are concerned to hear that you found the catering on offer to be below the standards you would expect however.

We do carry out frequent inspections of the food and the Patient Environment Action Team recently rated the food at St Michael's as "good". In relation to the tea, in a recent blind tasting the brand we currently use did not come top as it had done in the previous tasting, and so we we are currently in discussions with our suppliers about this.

We take your comments about the catering very seriously and our Catering Manager has taken note of your experience. In the near future we are putting in place a monthly programme to collecting feedback from patients about their experience of St Michaels. This will include questions about food and will be an additional way to help us monitor quality.
