"Why is there no joined-up thinking in the NHS?"

My son attended the Cardiology Department today for an appointment for an exercise test. He has special needs, our car is being repaired, so we paid for taxis. When he got to the hospital, he was told that he was too heavy for the treadmill, and sent home. His weight has been recorded by several NHS departments - doesn't anyone ever check? His BMI is 64, he has insulin resistance, he should be having bariatric surgery as a matter of urgency at St George's, where he is on the waiting list, and this appointment today was crucial. We were hoping that the result might expedite his surgery. My son is very distressed about this.
