"My operation due to go ahead but was told it had been cancelled"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

Was due to be admitted for removal of a cyst on my ovaries plus removal of both ovaries through keyhole surgery. Got to the hospital, Sunderland day care centre, just to be told that I had apparently cancelled my own op?  After some time waiting for an explanation I was asked to go into the office to answer a phone call. I was not happy with the explanation given so I called PALS. They were quick to call me back but I was annoyed to find out that the nurse who did my pre-op assessment had sent an email to my consultant to advise that I did not think I needed the surgery? I did not cancel this op or tell this nurse that I did not want this to go ahead at anytime during my assessment but somehow it was decided to cancel my op without notifying me!

I was furious as my Son had taken 2 days off work to come to stay with me. This is not the first time I have experienced such bad communication at this hospital. My Husband died at Medway Hospital 6 years ago and had the same experiences with his care! I can see no improvement whatsoever.

Please accept our sincere apologies that you felt the lack of communication was poor in relation to your operation having been cancelled.

If you would like Pals to try and help you ascertain if another date has been rescheduled then please contact them on 01634 825004
