"Laparoscopy."

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary / Gynaecology

I attended ward 40 on the 12th September for a Laparoscopy for Endometriosis. The hospital and the ward were all very clean and well presented. I was very nervous but most of the nurses were friendly and made me feel better. The Anaesthetist was very friendly with a good sense of humour and put my mind at ease, so much so that after a few minutes in the anaesthetic room I barely felt nervous at all. The consultant was fantastic, very friendly, very informative and a breath of fresh air. I had been fighting for a diagnosis of Endo for a very long time so it was nice to finally be listened too. The consultant removed quite a lot of Endometriosis and now only 5 days later I feel almost recovered which is a lot faster than I expected. My only real issues are that I wasn't really given much aftercare advice, and the advice I was given by nurses was mis informed. A follow up appointment was never made which I thought seemed strange. Also, 2 days after when I called the ward concerned that I may have an infection due to feeling extremely sick and feverish I was told to take a 40 minute bus ride and walk 30 minutes to the hospital (I could barely stand up never mind travel) because they would not send out non emergency transport. They refused to be of any further help and I ended up having to go to my GP instead.
