"This is the third time I've ..."

About: Kettering General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

This is the third time I've stayed at KGH, 2001, 2005 & 2010. This time I spent the following in KGH on SAU (1 day), Deene C (4 days), Lamport (8 days) then back to Deene C after Surgery (7 days). I was very ill and everyone did their utmost for me. All staff, be it Nurses, Doctors or Consultants, kept me informed daily about my treatment. Even when things didn't go as planned everyone was professional, helpful and informative. All the questions I asked were answered, even if they couldn't be answered immediately the answer was sought. I was attended to daily by Nurses, A Specialist Nurse, Doctors, a Pharmacist, a Dietician & a Physiotherapist. The cleanliness of the hospital has vastly improved since 2005. I noticed all staff wash their hands after each patient and use the alcohol hand wash, and after each patient leaves they perform a complete wash down of the bed and the area. I can't comment on the food because I was nil by mouth or on a special liquid diet.

What could be improved

Although not directed at me, as I was mobile for most of my stay at KGH, there were two comments I heard alot, 'I'll be with you in a minute' and 'I'm a bit busy at the moment', this would imply the Wards/Bays were short of staff. I think this is particularly noticeable on nights.

Anything else?

I did noticed that some patients think they're in a hotel and expect both care and attention 24/7. So if your one of those people , remember, everyone is in hospital for reason and everyone is suffering, so be a patient patient
