"Are Geriatric patients placed in the right wards at Barnsley?"

About: Barnsley Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I went to Barnsley District General for a liver stent, staying on ward 31. The hospital food was terrible.

I feel very strongly that an incontinent person used a commode several times whilst meals were being served to patients in the same room, who were recovering and needed encouragement to eat. We all have elderly relations, but I feel that geriatrics are sometimes in the wrong wards waiting for decisions on their care. I was in a ward with an elderly incontinent lady who sometimes had to be changed 3or4 times straight away (no air conditioning 4 floors up). Also, a lady being assessed for Alzheimer's disease , who on a night turned into a demon. I feel I must mention I had a mum who suffered from Alzheimer's for 8 years, so I am not insensitive to their care. But all this was not acceptable.
