"I felt relieved, cared for and treated with respect as well as medically"

About: Borders General Hospital / General Surgery (Ward 7)

(as the patient),

I had a hernia and opted for a cancellation appointment. Friday lunch time a call for me saying they had a cancellation for the Monday morning. No problem. Monday operation was carried out and found the surgery team very upbeat and a great team. Recovery staff great best cup of tea and slice of toast you could ever have. The anaesthetic took a long time to get out my system causing me to stay overnight having a dead left leg. Next day unable to get out of bed myself. Head doctors came around and wanted me up and about. I tried and collapsed in a heap. The team were around me in no time at all giving me a full check over and after reassurance that all was well. It was back to bed. Head doctors came around and still wanted me out. Ward staff knew I was not ready to go and allowed me that extra day in their care. I felt relieved, cared for and treated with respect as well as medically. So the teams and the nhs get thumbs from me and my special thanks to staff nurse Caroline on ward 7
