"Found the consultant to be unfriendly, uncaring and aloof"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Rheumatology (Joint conditions)

(as the patient),

I waited 3 months for Rheumatology appointment. Found the consultant to be unfriendly, uncaring and aloof. Nurses were nice and helpful and blood test was taken.

Found out this blood sample had been incorrectly labelled so a week ago had this test done again by my local GP practice. I have been told that they will not accept the sample from my practice as it has to been done by Rheumatology dept. Are their nurses any different?

This is an absolutely ludicrous level of incompetence and I am going to be filing an official complaint.

Thank you for taking time to post your feedback on Patient Opinion. You do seem to have encountered quite a few obstacles in getting the care you need. Three months is a long time to wait and then to be met with an unhelpful attitude from a member of our staff is very disappointing. NHS Grampian strives to be a caring, listening and improving organisation and we wish all our employees to be caring and compassionate too. I am unsure what the situation with the blood test is but it seems clear to me that our services need to be more joined up and less wasteful of both resources and time. Clinical time has been wasted here but also so has your time.

I will ask the service concerned to respond to your post. In the meantime I apologise for the difficulties you have encountered. Hopefully the service concerned can take on board what you have said and change can happen.
